Harness Settings

Open Main Menu → Harness settings. These settings apply only to the harness you currently have open.

Read-only

Toggle Make this harness read-only to disable all editing of the harness. A read-only harness can still be viewed and exported, and you can switch editing back on from the same tab.

Units

Currency

Sets the currency symbol used throughout the harness.

Default length unit

Sets the default length unit used in the harness.

Default gauge unit

Sets the default gauge unit used in the harness.

• mm² - Millimeters squared (Metric)
• AWG - American Wire Gauge
• cmil - Circular Mil
• kcmil - Kilo Circular Mil

Component IDs

Sets how the harness numbers its component IDs (C1, W3, …). Like the units, each change also becomes your starting point for new harnesses. The settings can’t be changed while the harness is read-only.

• Assign IDs by - Canvas position (the default) numbers components by their position on the Schematic view, so IDs can change as components are moved or added. Static keeps each component’s ID from when it was created, and a new component takes the next number for its type. Switching back to Canvas position asks you to confirm, as it replaces every static ID.
• Renumber IDs - Shown with Static selected. Reassigns every component’s ID from its current position on the canvas, closing any gaps. Disabled when the IDs already match the canvas positions.

Schematic

Sets how components are drawn on the Schematic view. The settings are saved with the harness and can’t be changed while the harness is read-only.

• Connector width / Terminal width - The width new Connectors and Terminals start at, in grid units from 2 to 12. Drag the slider; the mark labelled 5 (default) is the standard width. Components already on the schematic keep their width, and you can still change any component’s width from its right-click menu.
• Show twisted wires headers - On by default. Turn it off to draw Twisted Wires without the header bar above their wires. The component ID and label then show in a small box above the wires instead, like a splice’s, and none of the wires move. The PDF export draws them the same way.

Layout

Sets how the Layout view draws this harness. The settings are saved with the harness, so everyone who opens it, including viewers of a shared or embedded harness, sees it the same way, and the layout pages of the PDF export follow them too. Each change you make also becomes your starting point for new harnesses, the same as the units. The settings can’t be changed while the harness is read-only.

Everything is on by default, with connectors drawn from the top.

Connectors

Choose Symbol, Top drawing or Side drawing: draw every connector as the connector symbol, or as the top or side drawing of its part where it has one. See Connector Drawings.

Part colours

Draw components in their part colour draws connectors (the symbol or drawing), terminal sleeves and Branch Points in the Color of their part. A branch point takes the colour of its first coloured boot, or, with no coloured boot, its outermost covering. Turned off, they are all drawn grey.

Bundles

• Draw bundles at their estimated thickness - Draws each bundle as wide as its estimated diameter, the packed wires plus the wall of each covering on it, instead of one fixed width. See Bundle Appearance and How Diameters Are Estimated.
• Show coverings and wires on bundles - Draws each bundle’s outermost covering along it, such as the ribs of corrugated tubing or the turns of spiral wrap, and a bundle with no covering as its wires side by side.
• Draw coverings and wires in colour - Draws coverings and wires in their part colours. Turned off, coverings are drawn grey and a bundle with no covering is a plain line. Only available while Show coverings and wires on bundles is on.

Formboard

The Formboard tab turns the layout view into a 1:1 physical scale drawing of your harness, with its own settings for panel size, grid, bend radius, and annotation scale. Read more…

Team

Shown when you belong to a team. Use Move to team to share the harness with your team so seated members can edit it alongside you, or Remove from team to return it to personal ownership. See Collaborating on harnesses.

Sharing

The Sharing tab is the same as the Share dialog — make the harness public or invite people to it by email. See Sharing for the full guide.

Delete

The Delete button at the bottom of the tab list permanently deletes the harness. This can’t be undone.
