Splice
A Splice connects two or more wires within the harness. Each Splice can be assigned a splice part.
Boots and Coverings are added to a splice through a configuration of its part, and apply to every splice using that configuration. To cover only some of the splices using a part, give them a configuration of their own. See Assigning Coverings.
Adding a Splice
right-click on the canvas in the Schematic view and select Splice.
You can also add a Splice by selecting multiple wires in the Schematic View, then right-click and choosing Add splice.
You can also drag a Layout Point of an existing wire onto a Splice to split the wire there and connect both halves to the splice.
Deleting a Splice
Deleting a splice that joins exactly two wires merges them back into a single wire through the deleted splice. The surviving wire keeps its part and colour, and the layout points of both wires. A splice joining more conductors, or a cable core or twisted wire, is deleted normally and leaves the wires disconnected.
Locating a Splice
Splices are automatically positioned based on the most efficient wiring path. To position a Splice manually in the Layout view, hover over the splice to show a location handle on each side of it, then left-click-drag from either handle to any Branch Point, Connector, or Terminal. Dragging the arrow head of the splice’s location line works the same way. Diodes and Resistors are located the same way.
The handles aren’t shown on a read-only harness, or for a splice in a locked or linked group.
There is no official support for offset splices, however you can add additional branch points and assign the Splice to this branch point to achieve a staggered splice.
Viewing Splice Component IDs
To view the component ID of a splice on the Schematic and Layout views select Show component IDs in the bottom right corner of the view, or press I. The ID is shown in a box above the splice, together with its label if it has one.
Labelling a Splice
right-click the splice and type a name, such as GND FRONT, into the Label field at the top of the menu. The label is used in place of the splice’s ID wherever it is named, such as in the Connections view and wiring tables, and left-click it on the canvas to change it. See Labelling Components.
